Question 4: In the video clip, the teacher is introducing and teaching an explicit social-skills lesson regarding giving compliments. The steps in giving a complement are broken down into specific activities, such as looking at the person, smiling, using an appropriate tone of voice, and so on. Is this type of explicit instruction more appropriate than simply modeling how to give a complement? Explain your answer.
I think that both modeling and explaining each step of giving a compliment, are both important. By breaking down each step of giving a compliment, students learn how to create good compliments, as well as, the importance of them. The students learn how it impacts others and how sharing compliments with others can make them feel good too. Modeling is also key, because it allows students to see good examples of compliments and how they can be included into conversations.
